Studying III
I wanted to create something to celebrate Autumn and also to highlight the need to plant trees, for so many reasons, but to keep the colours of Autumn vibrant with variety of species.

Studying II
My second attempt at transforming a sheet of A3 paper, resulted in a hedgehog. This piece was again made using no glue but slotting the elements together.

Studying I
I have started my studies this week towards an MA.
Induction week has been a paper challenge, where we were to take one piece of A3 and transform it using a variety of techniques. My first attempt was a grumpy looking man. Once cut out I used the scraps from around him, I made into his beard, moustache and eyebrows.
As he still looked a little naked I added some tattoos to complete his look.

Irene Banchero
Just love the warmth of these spheres by Irene Banchero and their lovely colours. today's inspiration. I am finding it quite difficult to find very much information on Irene, she works in many different media and her work often veers towards product design.

Patti Roberts-Pizzuto II

A house form is high in the visual vocabulary of Patti Roberts-Pizzuto. Patti's works are calm, created over time layering papers with painting and hand stitching.Wednesday, 5 October 2011

Mathilde Roussel

Mathilde Roussel's Muse sculptures, made from paper and glue, explore the way we imperceptibly change every day as if we were changing skin like a snake. Our skins flake away and so unlike in Mathilde's sculpture we are not left with an outer casing that we have shed. Mathilde's sculptures are an interpretation of a skin used, a trace of passing time and a memory.

Hannah Bertram

Australian artist Hannah Bertram works on painstakingly time consuming and detailed works of art. I love her pierced bills and envelopes, her work is epitomised by last years installations entitled 'the silence of becoming and disappearing'. For me, it is an exploration of life and its sometimes lonely and quite demise.

Lulu Allison I

Lulu Allison makes delicate, transient pieces of work, cut from newspaper crossing headlines, adverts and features that are themselves transient in our consciousness." ...Most of my work still lies with the unfixed, such as works in newspaper put up in the wild, town or country. They last a short time, a temporary intervention in spaces decorated by sprayed graffiti, spilled paint, decay, the slow changing forms of plants."

Matthew Daren Shlian

Paper engineer and artist Matthew Shlian makes incredible structures, we are still surrounded by snow, so I love the crystal like forms that Matthew has sculpted. I understand now that mastery of such a simple material as paper, creates basic three dimensional knowledge that can be applied to fashion furniture architecture and many other disciplines, it is invaluable.

Sachiko Abe

Sachiko Abe cuts paper into gossamer threads, creating sculptures that look like they were made by a giant insect and resemble wasp nests or cocoons or spider's webs. Often Sachiko Abe'sworks are installations made with an audience witnessing the passing of time accompanied by the sound of ever snipping scissors.

Whitney Stansell
This is a sculptural piece made from ink, thread and 1950's and 1960's girl's dress patterns. The text on the garments is based on letters from Whitney Stansell's grandfather to her grandmother from two key events of their lives together. The sports jacket has letters written to his wife just after the birth of their first child, and the second prison uniform has letters from when he was incarcerated for money laundering. Whitney's work has a wonderful delicate quality, I love the layering of text and pattern, and the social history of this very personal piece of work

Joanne B Kaar III
These bags of flour form part of Joanne's works related to research into the life of baker and botanist Robert Dick. These stunning books were created from waste linen from the Scalpay Weaving shed in the Western Isles. The covers are digitally printed and the text inspired by three events in Robert Dicks life all related to flour sacs.

Tara Badcock

These buildings were made by Tara Badcock on a residency at Highfield House Stanley, Tasmania. I can imagine them lit up internally with strings of fairy lights. Tara Badcock is a prolific textile artist working on in an array of methods and materials her portfolio of work is vast and should keep you busy for some time.

Ivano Vitali
Above: Pubblicita Nera, Below: Yellow AdvertisementsIt is over a year since I first showed some of the amazing work of Italian artist Ivano Vitali but today's discovery of James Bassler reminded me of his incredible works. Here are the the subtle and wonderful hues of Ivano's spun paper balls, each spun from a different paper publication.
