Emily Dickinson

The origami of thought, scraps of poems by Emily Dickenson gathered together in a single book, 'The Gorgeous Nothings: The Envelope Poems Of Emily Dickinson' published in 2013 edited by Jen Bervin and Marta Werner.

It is the first book devoted to full colour, actual-size images of this specific body of her work, you are drawn first to the shapes, colours, and textures rather than words, in this way they draw you in as visual objects and then poems.

Pigeon Post

My last (I think!) mail art for Paul Smith.
This time I wanted to make a textile parcel, because when we were travelling around India over 20 years ago, we sent some parcels home and they were sewn into a calico wrap with wax seals and they looked magical.
So I have made another pigeon this time in calico, I wanted to include some pigeon food, so I made pigeon eggs from rice paper and stuffed them with corn. I had to pack the pigeon with bubble wrap to try protect the eggs.

Beaks for Beak Street II

I was planning on a pelican beak, but it took an unexpected twist when I saw this image from 3 years ago of a Pelican in a London Park who ate this poor pigeon alive.
So my pelican beak envelope now has a pigeon hidden inside it as well as its label, this pigeon can come out though.
The deadline for submissions of decorated envelopes has been extended (thank you Jeannie) by a month until 27th of May, instructions are here at Paul Smith's Blog.

Beaks for Beak Street I

Paul Smith is opening a new shop on Beak Street, London, and he has requested decorated envelopes on his blog. I had shared it with my students as a fun project to be involved with.
Last night I got home and needed that solace of creativity, so I thought I would apply myself to it and then realised that I needed to do it now or never, as they have to be in London for Saturday.
Here is my beaks for Beak St a spoonbill beak and  flamingo beak, I want to do at least two more, maybe a curlew and a puffin.
