Camilla Watson

While I was in Lisbon I stayed in the Bairro Alto where there is one of the most impressively touching, personal and personable exhibitions of art ever! For displayed along the streets, are beautiful portraits of the people of the neighborhood, particularly the older residents. There are photographs of them at their doors, their windows and hangouts about their daily business, capturing their essence and humanity. The photographs called 'A Tribute', are by photographer Camilla Watson who fell in love with the area and then became a resident herself.

"I am interested in people, communities  - and their history. How can we keep a communities history alive? How can we hold onto their memories in rapidly changing environments?" Camilla Watson.

Emilio Cresciani

Photographer Emilio Cresciani works with the ignored and unnoticed  be it; portraits of waste, the landscape of nightime road maintainence or the beauty of bird poo.
Flight Patterns, "These works explore the idea that beauty is all around us and in places that we least expect it. Each black and white photograph highlights the patterns and textures of bird droppings on different pavements. I became fascinated by the delicate patterns, creamy white textures and circular shapes and sprays during a visit to Venice, Italy and I noticed that over time the patterns fade or are added to with more layers and sprays. The patterns are a landscape overlaid onto another landscape – the brick pavements, concrete slabs and wooden boards that we walk on each day. The splats contrast the straight lines of the pavements. This work continues my interest in waste and finding beauty in the overlooked aspects of our lives." Emilio Cresciani

Denis Sarazhin

Denis Sarazhin also attended the Kharkov Art and Design Academy, graduating in 2008. His paintings are stunningly beautiful, with lovely texture and pattern detailing and great use of impasto. Denis also has a photography portfolio and his long exposure work is very enigmatic.

Fong Qi Wei

I couldn't resist Fong Qi Wei's 'Exploded Flower' series this morning, just for the colour and exuberance. Fong Qi Wei is a Chinese photographer, he wanted to capture the symmetry but also all the individual floral components (Thanks).

Bert Teunissen

Here is a tiny selection of Bert Teunissen's Domestic Landscape series, where Bert has travelled most of Europe and Japan taking portraits of people in their domestic environments. These portraits are fascinating in terms of culture, belongings, interiors, furniture, style as well as being stunningly beautiful. Bert has been working on this project for the past 13 years and as a photographer he says that the work is all about light, for me they are all about people, but Bert is also documenting the demise of culture and tradition.

"I found that when local traditions disappear, most of their visible aspects are also lost. When a small farmer stops slaughtering, the open fireplace becomes redundant. Sausages and hams will be dried artificially and smoked in a factory losing their original flavour and appearance. And when a small farmer stops farming, the stables are converted into storage or living spaces, the stable doors are replaced by windows, the cement floor by parquet, the hayloft is altered into bedrooms, the kitchen moved to the former parlour, and slowly all rooms and spaces will have lost their original meaning and significance."

Travel the world by house hoping through the fantastic portfolio of Bert Teunissen.
