Tammy Smith grew up near an old abandoned amusement park, in its state of disrepair it has had a  great impact on Tammy's visual language. 

After working for many years as a professional illustrator at Hallmark, Tammy Smith now creates ever more intricate and wonderful circus shows as sculptures and wall pieces into which she incorporates lighting fixtures or includes kinetic elements. (interview)

I can certainly relate to this quote of Samuel Becket's and I found it in a blog post accompanying these lovely etchings. They were created by Italian illustrator Arianna Favaro and exhibited at Bologna Children's fair 2010. 
Sometimes life offers up rings of fire that you just have to keep jumping through.

My last post on the fantastic Isidro Ferrer is from his book Creat-tu-circo a book of circus characters that you can make, fun for the weekend.

The Circus . . . has come to town

At last it is all finished and ready to post tomorrow. Textiles are so under appreciated as an art form. I love to work in this media but it is a slow process, requiring incredible patients, there is no rush even when there is one and no short cuts.
Now it is time to relax and get ready for a new week and a new project.
This piece has been created for an exhibition called Tactile in Alloa, where visitors will be encouraged to touch the work. I wanted bunting not only for the colour, but also for that ragged prayer flag feeling. I am therefore hoping that the work will improve by being touched.

Circus

Busy, busy, busy at the moment new term, and an exhibition piece to finish. This is a piece of work called Circus that I am hoping to submit for a textile exhibition called tactile. I have to sashiko the whole piece, frame it and add extras . . .

This young Spaniards work really made me laugh. I love the idea of tattoo's peeling themselves free, and I really like Ricardo Cavolo's circus series of postcards, wonderful work.

Antony Xu Jin

A young Chinese illustrator who used to be an electrical engineer, these examples of Antony Xu Jin's work have the order and colour of Indian Miniatures, and they are appealingly other, if you know what I mean, anyway I think they are great.

Head Lice

I know its not something you normally discuss, but we have been plagued with head lice this

holiday. Inspired by flea circuses, I penned a head lice circus, it helps me cope with the constant battle that we have been engaged in. I like the trapeze artists best.
