Shiho Ueda I

Shiho Ueda is a Japanese artist who builds up translucent layers of water colour or Aquarelle and lately also incorporates stacks of coloured papers. In her latest exhibition her work is moving more into the realms of installation creating an environment of soft flowing colour. 

Colour Collage

I am teaching Higher art on Saturday morning, it is killing me not having a full weekend, but my students are delightful and I am loving the work that they are doing. This weekend they worked with coloured tissue papers and some other pieces including colour charts for paint to make colleges.  

Bologna Colour

I don't understand these random splashes of colour in Bologna, but I like them and they seem to be a strange celebration of water as they are always following the course of water or around the drains.

Christy Kinard

With still lives boardering on abstraction Christy Kinard's development is almost mirroring the transitions made by Mondrian when painting his fantastic trees, wonderful bright collaged paintings. 
"I created my own visual language partially inspired by the Southern quilting tradition. While quilting is a globally practiced art, the South has its own unique style. My great aunts, who sewed kaleidoscope patchwork with patterned squares of fabric, exposed me to this style. Instead of picking up a needle, however, I picked up a paintbrush to paint and collage layers of patterns and textures with simplified bold shapes and weaving lines." Christy Kinard

Liz Tran

Liz Tran's works always have fantastic colour what ever her theme. These tree pieces are some of her latest works some heavely inspired by guerrila knitting. "What I see when I look out the window are trees. When I look to the sky I see branches. I typically encounter more trees per day than people. These are my portraits."

Thomas Campbell

Colourful, collaged, stitched kaleidoscopes, the work of Thomas Campbell is a tonic for the eye.

Andrea Cavagnaro

Andrea Cavagnaro is a textile artist from Beunos Aires, Argentina, who creates these intricate cut and layered felt sculptures, resembling the paper cuts of Jen Stark. And so a new week starts, fueled by a desire for colour, fuzzy felts and toxic sweets. I hope it is a good one for you all. (thanks)

Noah Woods

Bold and bright, Noah Woods uses intense colour and basic shapes, on collaged backgrounds to form his illustrations. Noah's work has a beguiling simplicity and richness that reminds you of childhood fuzzy felts and toxic coloured sweets. He has published an award winning children's book, Tom Cat.

Klas Ernflo

The simple joy of colour and flow of paint, 'colour pad' from the amazingly talented Klas Ernflo. Some time ago I blogged his campaign against pollution of the sea which is simply fantastic.

Carmen Casanova

This is the exuberant work of Spanish artist Carmen Casanova with its wonderful colour and its innovative use of collage.

Embroidering circles

I spent the weekend sewing tissue circles onto paper, just to see if, when I wet them, the colour would bleed along the thread, don't ask me why. It did work, though it is subtle and I don't know what I will be doing with it next. Nice to be sewing paper again, its been many years.

Lu Summers

I found this wonderful work earlier today, lost it and found it Phew ! These do it yourself (colour) posters are by Lu Summers who also screen prints wonderful fabrics and other wonders.

Chi Cha Huang

My eyes are really hungry for colour tonight, these illustrations by Chi Cha Huang are wonderful, the colour tonic I need.

Coloured Ice Slide

These images are from the 2008 World Ice Championships at Alaska, found here . I would have loved to have been there and gone down these chutes.

Mobiles

Needed to do something cheerful with the students, in their first few days back of term. So we have used bright paper to make little garlands, perfect for putting up in those drab, post Christmas, winter days.
