It has been on my mind for some time now that I wanted to share and document some work by the wonderful Alisdair Anderson. Pictured here is a piece from the private collection of a great friend of his and mine Annabel MacGregor. I love the humour, resourcefulness and creativity of this wonderful work, that Alisdair has created from lost, found and discarded treasure, especially the zips in the legs and beak.

Collin Sekajugo

 

Collin Sekajugo is a Ugandan artist who creates his images on the subject of identity by collaging found textiles, paper and polypropylene bags from the streets of his home town his inclusion of contemporary consumer materials in his art make it very relatable to as viewers have a relationship to and recognise the materials of their intimate daily lives. Collin's works explore issues of social, cultural, economic and political identity within the global community and ecconomy.

Peter Gallo

Peter Gallo, I do love the combination of wood, textiles and paint. Peter Gallo is an artist who's work is mixed in media, inspiration and thought. Eclectic work from an eclectic mind.

Amanda Valdez

Amanda Valdez makes modern abstracts using mixed media. Her paintings feature extensive areas of embroidery and sometimes fabric collages similar to quilting.

"Fabric, embroidery, paint, sewing machine, and a frame: these ingredients in my current body of work push for shapes and lines to have an intimate relationship with one another and to the edge of their frame. It’s crucial that the fabric becomes part of the surface; is the support, is equal to the canvas, obtains autonomy structurally, and that it’s not simply collaged on top of the canvas. The fabric is not a mere embellishment, but a sustaining force in the physicality of the whole painting as an object". Amanda Valdez

Maria Pace-Wynters

Canadian artist Maria Pace-Wynters, akin to Jane, has a wonderful use of vivid contrasting colours and a lovely use of line in her paintings and mixed media works.
"I love to play with colour and I am really pleased with some of my colour experiments. My painting use to be very dark but when I had my children that seemed to change. I guess you could say that they brought colour into my life. I much prefer my palette now and when I look back on older paintings have to resist the urge to go back into them with some bold colour." Dan-ah Kim

Another nocturnalist painter is Dan-ah Kim who's works are full of stars and moonlight. Dan-ah Kim's works are mixed media layering paint, paper and stitch.

Janice Parker

Janice Parker spins tiny webs of fantasy out of porcelain and wire, a miniature monochrome world populated by star machines and time thieves.

Lisa Qualls

Lisa Qualls haunting works are writing on the skin, usually on a skin of clothing, these skirt forms were from her 2008 exhibition 'Surveillance Maritime'. The specific printed text is from Spanish and French news articles about Canary Island Boat people. Lisa's work is about the reoccurrance of issues surrounding people fleeing homelands and trying to repatriate themselves.

The intriguing work of Francois Vassivere a Parisian artist who incorporates text into his works in innovative and fascinating ways. The majority of his works are portraits (like the top image)woven into text based pieces using mixed media and collage.
