Lauren Roche

Starting us on a week of big cats Lauren Roche's enigmatic new work, which looks ancient, a mix of Persian , Chinese, Indian and Japanese, with wonderful lines and patterns and delicate surfaces in a limited colour palette.

Penelope Dullaghan

A delightful story written by Rebecca Colby with gentle clear illustrations by Penelope Dullaghan. A book that reminds us to be empathetic. To see the beauty in others, even when they're not kind and to remind ourselves that everyone needs love and cuddles.

Štěpán Zavřel V

“Our Wonderful Earth” written by Ursula Wölfel and illustrated by Štěpán Zavřel, published in Germany in 1971.  A book about the folly of man in not working with nature, whilst the children can see the mistakes they are making.

Jun Kaneko I

The work of  Jun Kaneko is unique and wonderfully perplexing, folkloric and medieval almost in its subject matter, I have no idea how the marks are made, on the canvases, probably scratched through black on white paint, the pieces on paper, I assume must be printed. However the work is created I find its detail and subject fascinating and beautiful.

Meji Haru

The lions of 絵はむずかしい Meji Haru, I like the scalloped designs of the tail and mane.

Iwona Chmielewska VII

Above: As the flax matures...My grandmother Hulda, her sisters and brothers.

Illustrations by Iwona Chmielewska from the book Lullaby for Grandmother, published by South Korea's BIR, which was the Bologna Ragazzi Award winner in the category of New Horizons 2020, tells a story of female textile workers from the city of Łódź. It is presented as a catalogue of fabrics from old textile factories. For this book Iwona Chmielewska has incorporated vintage fabrics and the handicraft of women who are no longer with us. Doilies, embroidered handkerchiefs - not in use anymore, passed on, discarded these scraps of incredibly skilled hand craft tell us about life and fill us with memories.

Armel Barraud

There is something so wonderfully delicious about wire drawings, their fragility and the way they cast shadows, maybe the space and air they hold. These beautiful pieces are by French artist Armel Barraud

Alisa Yufa IV

As ever the wonderful Alisa Yufa's illustration is dynamic and fun with its line work, colour and texture and the illustration seems most fitting for the 'bring your own' week we are having here.

Michael McGrath

The naive and surreal work of Michael McGrath show everything to be interlinked and yet seperate, they are fascinating.

Noemi Vola II

Adults are curious beings and sometimes they answer children's questions with words like "maybe..." or "we'll see..." but what do they really mean?"
'Ask your father... and other mysterious phrases of adults'  is a book that explores these anomalies written by Davide Cali and illustrated by Noemi Vola, published by Corraini Edizioni.
