Damian Aquiles

Damian Aquiles is a Cuban artist who in this series has used old cans as a canvas.
"I like to work with used materials, for the concentrated energy that emanates from them, they have a lot of light. I don't work with trash, but with last life.
Those materials have a previous history. My art pieces concentrate on that energy. I continue it's life by recycling it, by using it's previous life, energy, and history to tell my own story." Damian Aquiles

Nick Gentry II

These portraits by Nick Gentry are composed of vintage negatives, xrays and acrylic sheets pained with oil, like memories showing through the surface of the skin. Which reminds me of the incredible and extremely sad children's book 'The Last of the Giants' by Francois Place.

Nick Gentry I

Nick Gentry's social art from the obsolete takes ever day objects that have formed part of our physical histories and transforms them into contemporary portraits. This series is painted floppy discs, it is very like graffiti and has the appeal of  contemporary commercial illustration.
"People say to me well who are the subjects? well actually the subjects are the discs themselves  . . . the data inside. Nick Gentry (thank you)

The greedy king . . . playing with his gold

I am clutching at what little day light we have available and the last of the leaves before they blow away, so I did this in my lunch hour.
The leaves on my cherry tree were so golden this morning and I wondered what they would look like as gold coins  . . . according to Finlay they look like pringles
(I think he was hungry).

Anna Silivonchik III

Anna Silivonchik, pattern, colour and fun for this dark Monday morning from Belarus artist Anna Silivonchik.
". . .for me, creative process is like playing a wizard, it’s thrilling – when at my will and whim I can create new worlds and realities" Anna Silivonchik

Autumn Reds

I went out to buy coffee this morning and on the way back from the shop noticed all these leaves on the ground and had to pick them up and do something with them, they are like thin ice you can hardly touch them as they all instantly fall to pieces.
I have been wanting to play with leaves and little Red Riding Hood so this was a good opportunity.

Pilar Lopez Baez

There is something quite scary about the work of Pilar Lopez Baez . Because of  the layering of newspaper and photographs within her pictures, for me, her work enables us to see all the layers of information and activity that a person is constantly exposed to and the erosion and confirmation of that person through these interactions. (thanks)

Her work is beautiful as well and the skill in the drawing and painting is a joy to see.

Dominique Fortin II

Dominique Fortin's works also contain secret conversations.

Dominique Fortin I

The stunning paintings of Canadian artist Dominique Fortin. Dominique Fortin's paintings are the result of combinations of many techniques; collagraphy, scratching, projection, running paint, gilding, stencilling and image transferring.
Dominique's painting's have zing with there colour and gold but this is tempered by the photo transferred details.

One more night of summer time . . .

time to make an autumn apple pie, this poor apple isn't happy though.

Elsa Dray Farges II

Elsa Dray Farges works as an illustrator and stylist making a make believe world from cardboard and paper mache, a dream that you want to dive into.

Elsa Dray Farges I

I have seen Elsa Dray Farges masks so many times and I am embarrassed to say I had not thought about who made them. Tonight I meandered happily to her website through tenuous links and found treasure and happy creativity.

David Bachelor

I went to Dundee yesterday with the Fashion Department to a wonderful museum called the McManus Galleries which is a beautiful space with a lovely museum collection as well as interesting vibrant gallery spaces. the exhibitions on at the moment include ten exquisite Leonardo da Vinci drawings and 'Selling Dreams' which is a touring V and A exhibition of fashion photography from the last 100 years. This piece is by David Batchelor a Dundonian artist who produces vibrant works often incorporating light.

Livia Stein

"I love to paint, to put it straight out. What begins with an idea, ends with a journey.
Like the hang glider pilot, I peer over the edge and jump because that is my choice and necessity at once. Art is my statement of irony and my humor and my sadness about all that I try to accomplish and will never achieve in the small time I have from when I am born to when I cease knowing."
Livia Stein

Wild collage and monoprint stired together with colour and experience to make the best stories, that is the work of Livia Stein.
