Eggs and eyeballs

Easter Sunday and I have been at a pirate event, holding a replacement eye workshop.
Today was a ninety egg (eye) day and I was so happy as we completed the last eye in the final 5 minutes, perfect!

Walking with Pirates

It is often difficult to encourage children to walk, so this weekend the 'walk' was made less traumatic for everyone by combining it with a hunt for possible pirate legs. There are eight years between my children and when my son was younger we used to do this and then make the pirates out of air drying clay, incorporating the twigs, shells and other found objects.
This weekend we did not have air drying clay, but we did have art materials so these are some of our pirates. Freya has given one of her colourful pirates a trumpet which was a dried flower that fell out of one of my old sketch books.

For years now we have harboured a motley collection of pirates. At last I have managed to get them box framed, after nipping to a charity shop to find an old atlas, so hopefully they won't accidentally loose any limbs any more.
They are made from air drying clay with bits of old wire, beads shells and drift wood and sticks collected on outings and trips. Its great fun creating creating pirates from things you find on trips and adds to good memories when you treasure is incorporated into these old sea dogs.

Finlay's room has just had a make over which included this wonderful screen printed poster from San Fransisco's only pirate store http://www.826valencia.org/store this is the coolest shop and indeed coolest organisation as it works to improve literacy with great workshops tutorage ect. The shop has clothes, glass eyes, pirate flags and a resident puffer fish, have a look.
