Riitta Ikonen,

Riitta Ikonen is a Finish artist currently living in London. Riitta creates costumes, these then become instances of performance art, environmental art and photography projects.

"My work is concerned with the performance of images through photography and costume design . . . in my costumes tremendous things happen- to me and to the people I work with"

Riitta's work is concerned with ecology, climate and the bigger picture of planet health. All of the images I have included are from a project called 'Snowflake'. For a wonderful interview with this artist go here.

Nicole Dextras

I adore these ephemeral works by Canadian artist Nicole Dextras. These clothes trapped in blocks of ice are like drowned souls. This series of works is by it's very nature, impermanent and temporary, a photograph being the only record of its existence, they allude to our temporary existence, fragments of fabric and odd photographs.

Florentijn Hofman II

Another large scale example of Forentijn Hofmans incredible work, making fantastic impact on the landscape. Three grand piano's representing beached whales and washed up cargo.

Gyongy Lacky

Have had a fantastic holiday swimming in the ocean off of Sutherland, Scotland, yes that bit right at the top, the really cold bit! Finlay made Freya a beautiful garden in the sun kissed sand here it is.

I love drying washing as an image and so found the work of the Finish artist Karrina Kiakkonen wonderfully appealing, she makes large site specific works from discarded clothing and shoes.
Her work is haunting, stunningly visual and very inspiring.

Black Sea Bream

Environmental art to draw attention to the amount of "flotsam" washing up in Japan 15 million tones every year.

This exhibition "Is it waste? - Art drifting over borders. Waste floating in society -" aims to share and create awareness regarding environmental issues, marine pollution and mass consumption society, focusing on growing concerns about marine debris and wastes. '' This is part of a current exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture.

Sorry, I have had two days and nights animating frantically for a competition dead line. I was allowed out today for a wee while and I took the opportunity to do my pebble beach art work, it is amde from coal stones as alot washes up here.

World Beach Project

These images are all from The World Beach Art Project, masterminded by artist Sue Lawty and produced in association with the V&A.

It is a beach art project restricted to stones, rocks and pebbles.

To participate you will need a photograph of your art, the beach that you created it at and a picture of the creator/ creators in action. Go on have some fun at the beach this summer.
