Douglas Florian II

I found this strange and charming book in a charity shop in London, it is 'On the Wing', published in1994, a book of poems and illustrations by Douglas Florian a New York artist. This is his illustration of The Dipper and below its acompanying poem.

The Dippers

Through splash and spray
Of waterfalls
Skip the little dippers.
I think that they
Would gladly trade
Their oily wings for flippers
Inside a stream
They swim supreme,
For minutes if they wish -
Those funny little songbirds
Who think that they are fish.

Olga Ezova-Denisova

A delightfully odd and beautiful book by Olga Ezova-Denisova, with stunning observational detail, mixed in with surreal imagined joy created using mixed media: lino print, collage, watercolor, gouache and colored pencils.

Victoria Semykina V

I'm in London for a few days this week and as I have been very inspired and entertained by Victoria Semykina's recent sketches of the city, I will try to take time to make some sketches myself.

Al Rodin I

Images from Al Rodin's book; 'Little Echo'. Al is just graduating from the MA in Children's illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Their show opened in London on Tuesday, I hope to catch it the following week at Anglia Ruskin, in Cambridge.
Al has a wonderfully loose style and great use of vibrant layers of colour, he has just been awarded the Sebastian Walker Prize for illustration.

Yun Chiao Lin

Yun Chiao Lin graduated from Cambridge School of Art in MA Children's Illustration in 2017, I'm sorry I can only find this image of a giraffe pondering it's reflection, and no link to her work.

Hazel Terry

I have been gathering many photographs of old circuses and zoo's, well the ones that don't make me wince at how badly everything is being treated. Some of the animals that ended up in zoos are incredible and I would love to know more about their stories. Goliath the elephant seal is one of those characters.

Now I don't quite know what I am going to say here or what if anything is going to change.
This blog was ten years old last week, an incredible thing for a dyslexic artist to achieve.  Though I do pity the many skilled editors, grammar police and spelling kings and queens that have to suffer my mistakes and I am sorry that I make them.
Blogging every day has been something that I have insisted on for a number of years now, but I am finding it quite stressful now, mainly to find the content for a daily update, especially after long days at work and trying to do my illustration work. So there may be subtle or unsubtle changes ahead, I am not sure, but whatever happens thank you for your ongoing support and general wonderfulness.
