Hazel Terry: Mary Poppins Challenge Day 3

 

Prompt 3 'Mr Wiggins began to laugh again loudly, and as he laughed he went bouncing and bobbling about in the air, with the newspaper rattling in his hand and spectacles half on and half off.'

 I wanted Mr Wiggins to be that eccentric hoarder so he is floating above one of his towers of newspapers.

I lost my first version of this illustration and had to start again, hay ho. This time the printer chewed it, but the colour separation was a great thing to work with and add to. I wanted it to be like a magical spinning top

Hazel Terry: Mary Poppins Challenge Day 1

 

"Admiral Boom's house was built exactly like a ship it had ship’s funnels instead of chimneys and on the roof was a gilt weathercock shaped like a telescope." PL Travers

The basis for this image was a collage of the west wing of Edinburgh Castle, then I thought of PL Travers description of cherry blossom clouds. The funnel I wanted decorated like the Admirals uniform in gold, I placed Admiral Boom in a real crows nest with disgruntled crows, Mary Poppins flying in the distance, Michael playing with boats in a pond at the foot of the ship house.
