It has been on my mind for some time now that I wanted to share and document some work by the wonderful Alisdair Anderson. Pictured here is a piece from the private collection of a great friend of his and mine Annabel MacGregor. I love the humour, resourcefulness and creativity of this wonderful work, that Alisdair has created from lost, found and discarded treasure, especially the zips in the legs and beak.

‘Where Happiness Begins’, is a book by Eva Eland who has been working on a series of wonderful picture books about feelings.

"The more I read and thought about it, the more I realised it’s a skill we can cultivate. I came across the importance of gratitude many times during my research, so I finally took the advice to heart (that I heard for the first time as a kid when I watched Oprah on TV), and I started to write down 3 things that I’m thankful for every day. I have choose these two examples of his work because I am always drawn to pictures like this where there is a merging of characters/animals to create the picture. Samantha Zaza is a fantastic illustrator I love her powerful use of colour and the art deco style of her flowing lines and design.

Leo Lionni I

'Little Blue and Little Yellow' by Leo Lionni a Dutch Author and Illustrator, is a wonderful, clever book, conceived on a train journey. Its collaged characters are just blobs of colour but they convey friendship, family, school and games as well as teaching colour theory. It is great my kids have both loved it as have we, try and get yourselves a copy.

Cendrine Rovini

This is the surreal work of French artist Cendrine Rovini who's illustrative work has an almost eerie watery quality, I like the way her figures emerge from large blocks of colour.
