Kate McLelland I

This year the ECA degree show is early. I trained there between 1989-1991 in Drawing and Painting, but it is never painting that draws me, it is the illustration, jewelry, costume and fashion.
I used to love the tapestry but this has gone and has been replaced with Intermedia. When it was tapestry it was the most dynamic course that ECA had, the rebellion against the constraints of this ancient craft produced some wonderful contemporary artists who in casting off tapestry, wove together sculpture, painting and many other mediums.
This year my favourite MFA illustration graduate is Kate McLelland and her  books. This one is about a blackbird called Soot.
