Komako Sakai III

 

 

This is my last post today featuring the work of Komako Sakai as I did not want to not include these works. There is a great sadness in Komako's works, they are very haunting and I think the bottom illustration of the dove/angel emerging from the child's back is very clever.

I have already suggested that Komako Sakia's style reminds me of German artist Paula Modersohn Becker. Strangely Komako's darker drawings remind me of  another German artistst work, Kaethe Kollwitz, they are more powerful and emotionally charged than most children's illustration.

Beautiful  illustrations by Japanese artist/ illustrator Komako Sakai. Komako Sakai's remind me with their realism and emotion of the work of Paula Modersohn-Becker. Komako worked as  a textile designer before becoming an award winning illustrator.
