Marcin Markowski

It has taken me a long time to track the originator of this image, but finally I discovered Marcin Markowski  a Polish graphic designer with an often brutal visual language. I love the variety of line and the quality of text in these pieces, but Marcin's portfolio of posters has many different styles and uses of media and technique.

Berlin

It has been years since I was in Berlin at the Hive blogging conference but I found these pictures of Walter Womacka's tiles from the Fountain at Alexanderplatz, Berlin and used them as the building blocks for some poster design.

Sardines

I have been involved in several projects which are more graphic than anything I have done for a while. One is to design a sardine for the sardine festival, 'Festas Lisboa '16, which I then developed into posters.I am enjoying learning new skills at the moment and applying myself to different problems using these new techniques.

Wojciech Zamecznik

It is always frustrating when you cannot find further works by a particular artist, whose work you love. This is the case with Polish illustrator and graphic designer Wojciech Zamecznik (1923-1967) whom I discovered a long time ago on Stephanie's blog but have been unable to find any further examples of his illustration work except his film posters.

Jana Glatt

Brazilian illustrator Jana Glatt's 'O n o m a t o p e i a' are simple, fun illustrations of animal language. It always intrigues me the way we have different interpretations of animal sounds in different countries.

Monika Grubizna

It has been fun to see some of the responses to "Słowa do rzeczy" (Words to Things) a competition organised by the Ethnographic Museum in Krakow in 2014 exploring popular Polish sayings and proverbs and their origins in popular culture. This is the work of  Monica Grubizna that was chosen and published in 2014. Monica's work has evolved from a very strong tradition of Polish graphic design; both bold and subtle, but with a unique and complex Polish identity.
