Juliana Capes

I managed to get through to Edinburgh and catch the last day of The Hidden Door's Festival with my daughter and catch a little bit more of the Edinburgh College of Art Degree show which is on until Sunday the 7th of June.

In the warren of disused buildings at 'Hidden Door' there were many delights waiting to be discovered and some I hope to share with you.'Loveletters' is a joyous and colourful installation by Juliana Capes at The Hidden Door Festival in Edinburgh.

 “Unrequited love letters. A flock of hand made watercolour dyed paper aeroplanes, appearing weightless and drifting, as if caught in flight. Their stillness resembling a moment of perfect sunset. Romance. A sculpture characterised by pattern and colour rather than mass or heaviness – so much so it’s often been described as painting in space.” Juliana Capes

Sylvia Von Hartmann

Sylvia Von Hartmann is a German artist who has been living in Edinburgh for over thirty years. Sylvia is a fantastic character, and a magical artist who unfortunately I have not seen for years. Sylvia is represented by 'The Open Eye Gallery'
If I get the chance though I would like to be able to share more of her work and her creative energy.
Sylvia's works, like the lady herself have a mythology, a sense of narrative and a story to tell.

Julia Douglas

Julia Douglas is an artist who works across many mediums. I loved this cheese grater when I found it yesterday, and I was reminded of my previous post on this artist and her chandelier, made in collaboration with Claire Waddle and Rebecca Wilson, which also elevated utility household items into wonderful pieces of art.

Jupiter

A busy and wonderful day at Jupiter, (thank you Christine) if you are visiting Edinburgh from March to September then Jupiter is very close.

Tribal Trousseau

Hurray! I have been invited to the opening of 'Tribal Trousseau' at The Nomads Tent in Edinburgh next week. I can't wait I hope it is all as wonderful as the elephant pictured above.
