Greyling' written by Jane Yolan and illustrated by by William Stobbs published in 1968 by The World Publishing Company, is a Selkie tale from Shetland a tale of longing and loss, the illustrations are delicate watercolours and the depiction of the ocean is wonderful. A couple yearn for a child, but no child comes. One day the fisherman finds a baby seal and brings it home where it transforms into the child they had dreamed of.
One day the father is caught in an awful storm and none of the villagers will attempt to save him, when the 'seal' son dives in and rescues him, but on returning to the water returns to his seal form.
