Miche Wynants I

'Noah's Ark' illustrated and written by Miche Wynants published in 1965. This is an incredibly book illustrated with rich collaged colours and textures printed in colour and black and white. Miche Wynants (1934 -2025) was a Belgian graphic designer and illustrator who studied illustration at the Sint-Lucas Pavilion in Antwerp and then at La Cambre in Brussels.

She developed an interest in children's books, exhibiting her work at the Galerie Vendôme in 1962 together with her future husband, ceramist Pierre Culot (1938–2011) she caught the eye of Stella Seidenman. Seidenman who introduced her to the Parisian publisher Robert Delpire. She went on to publish children's books internationally.

“I really can’t explain why or how I make something. Often it is a surprise. That is precisely the beauty of it.For example, I made collages with pieces of bark and leaves. They have been lying in the attic for years, and daylight has left an imprint. When you remove such a piece of bark, you see that the shadow has been printed on the paper. That is how it goes: it is not me making something. The beauty is already present in an object, and I simply have an eye for it.” Miche Wynants
