Colleen Thompson, artist and jeweller created an event with help from Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network, on St Columbus Feast Day (9th June) where she invited people to participate in a group art event, they were instructed to wear pale colours.
We boarded a ferry at South Queensferry and sailed to Inchcolm island one of the many islands in the Forth. Here we formed an ark, and performed a song and movements about the rising water and effects of global warming.
As sea levels rise and coastal communities around the Firth of Forth face increasing risks from flooding and extreme weather, we gathered in an act of collective care, creativity and defiance. Together, we enclosed the abbey within an ark of protection ~ a symbolic act of protection for a place of such cultural and ecological significance. ECCAN
Because of extremely stormy and changeable weather, we had to constantly take shelter in Inchcolm abby and so there were many renditions and versions of the performance in the amazing spaces that the abby offers, these will hopefully be compiled into a film.
