Today I start a new (little) job at a zoo near me teaching kids animal related art and craft, a dream job. To celebrate this, I am sharing the work of Colonel Robert Jacob Gordon (1743 –1795) Dutch army officer, explorer, naturalist keen observer an recorder of zoology, botany and Anthropology. His drawings and paintings provide incredible insight into South Africa, for in the 1770's he undertook an expeditions on foot exploring the region.
I am still not familiar with the menagerie at the zoo, I know there are lemurs and porcupines and I am looking forward to meeting all of the other residents, I hope they are as happy as the buffalo above, or the hippo below!
