Many of the books that Clement Hurd illustrated in his career were written by his wife Edith Thacher (1910-1997), to whom he was married in 1939. This powerhouse couple created many children's books and a son who also became a children's book creator. 'The So-So Cat 1964', appears to have been illustrated with layered woodcuts which does give a satisfyingly spooky sky-scape.
