The Merry Chase was originally published in 1941, was the first book written and illustrated by Clement Herd (1908-1980). His fame continues today for the classic 'Good Night Moon' written by Margaret Wise Brown and published in 1947, there are of course many other books in his repertoire that have all but vanished in time. Clement Herd had a clean very 1950's style has great use of the page spread and used vibrant colour, he also seemed to love making books about races and chases.
