P.D Eastman ( 1909 –1986) was an animator for Walt Disney until 1942, when he was drafted to the army, fortuitously to the Signal Corps film unit, which was headed by Theodor Geisel, who later became known as Dr. Seuss. From 1945-1952 he worked as writer and storyboard artist for 'Mr Magoo' animations. Philip Dey Eastman also wrote and illustrated many children's books. In 1952 he started his freelance career and he was encouraged by Theodor Geisel to write a series of children's books for his 'BEGINNER BOOKS' project at Random House.
