Duke Riley has reinvented scrimshaw for the 21st century human and instead of etching biological finds whale bones and narwal teeth he is etching out painted plastic debris, the stories linked to some of the debris and the etching is wonderful.
Above: 'This flipper was discovered in the belly of a tiger shark caught by a commercial fisherman in 1995 off the coast of Florida. It has been hanging up in a garage in Cape Cod since then until it was gifted to the studio last year to be scrimshawed.'
