Greg Poole II

Greg Poole (1960-2018) It is always a shock to hear that an artist you admire has died. Yesterday Greg Poole died, I had shared his work here three years ago and then this year had been charmed by his illustrations again in Tim Dee's wonderful book 'Landfill' about seabirds.

Greg grew up near the Bristol channel and loved the bird and wildlife, this passion led to him studying zoology at Cardiff University. After graduating he did conservation work and worked in Ontario, Canada. During his work in Canada he found that he wanted to express what he saw during his conservation work and on his return he started his new career as a wildlife artist.

The illustrations I have used here are from his time on the John Busby seabird drawing course which he attended in 2017, and enjoyed learning new techniques of monoprinting as a way of sketching wildlife.
