Masayuki Motonaga
Artist Masayuki Montonaga (1922-2011) made abstract picture books that challenged adults probably much more than the children for which they were intended.
This book of poetry 'It is Lively!' by Shuntaro Tanikawa has energetic splashes and runs of coloured paint was published in 2006. The colour carries, as ever, emotion, energy triggering different reactions and emotions it moves through the pages and mingles with the text.
So refreshing to see a picture book that is not prescriptive and gives space for emotions, imagination and intelligence.

Very disconcerting, but that is why it caught my eye, such a different approach. :-)
