Sandra Schneider

Sandra Schneider's Degree show was an interior with a wall of tongues protruding from yellow wallpaper and reminded me of 'The Yellow Wallpaper' by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
"It is the strangest yellow, that wall-paper! It makes me think of all the yellow things I ever saw – not beautiful ones like buttercups, but old foul, bad yellow things. But there is something else about that paper – the smell! ... The only thing I can think of that it is like is the color of the paper! A yellow smell." The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

"Using sculpture, installation, print and voice as her medium Sandra explores the material aspects of language as well as the contribution of polyglotism and foreignness to self-alienation. "Only words are filling my body now" flirts with the fragility of the body and language. Sandra's work is often situated at borders or in between spaces; at the point where familiar becomes unfamiliar or self becomes other." Sandra Schneider
