Josephine Birch II
'Selkie' by Josephine Birch is a beautiful, delicate, wordless picture book published by Starfish Bay, which tells the tale of love and friendship across boundaries.
In a small village by the sea the fishermen are full of tales and myths of monsters, pirates and mermaids but there is one myth that may be true… the selkie.

Hazel Terry: Demonstrate!
This at a time, when so often people of my age are being asked why we didn't act earlier to protest or demonstrate on so many issues that are threatening our lives and basic rights. It doesn't seem to wash when you say you have been demonstrating for these things all your life.
So this weeks street collage focused on demonstrations and using historic photographs to highlight current issues by replacing the placards with modern ones.

Hazel Terry: Child's Play
They seem to reflect the desperate times we are living in, post covid and brexit in the UK . Whilst also highlighting the degradation of our environment, for us, our children and all the living things we share this world with. We are suffering on the east coast of Scotland with many terrible losses due to Avian flu and the wonderful gannet population has been devastated.
I suppose for many reasons, I am very sad just now, but somehow putting these gritty collages together gives me joy.

Yesterday
Yesterday it was my birthday, I am in my mid fifties, I don't know how that happened, there seems to be no chronology to ageing, suddenly you reach a number beyond your wildest dreams or dreads. Everyone needs you at this age, you are stretched to that point, (hopefully) just before breaking. So on a day of a little celebration, I thought the best way for me to approach the day would be an art project. It was the best way, for my head, for peace of mind and for celebration.
I chose 'Birthday Cake' as my theme and following on from last weekends street collage workshop with Nuart Aberdeen Festival, I spent the day nipping out into my small town and photographing tiny bits of it with even tinier bits of paper. I hope you like them, they do weirdly show exactly how I was feeling.
