Lilya Niauri's amazingly delicate illustrations from her animation; ′′ Letters from Vladivostok ′′ are based on the documents of Eleanor Pray. seen in the photograph below, in 1898 when she was aged 26.
Eleanor was an American woman, who grew up in the small town of Berwick and arrived in June 1884 (as she was betrothed to the brother of the American Shop owners) in Vladivostok, the main Russian city on the pacific ocean.
She sent letters to her loved ones every day. In her letters and photographs, she described this imperial city, its nature, and its life. creating a detailed chronicle that provides an astonishing and lively portrait of Vladivostok from the time of Czar Alexander III to the early years of Stalin’s rule.
