One of 18 illustrations made by
Edward Bawden (1903 - 1989) for Thomas Hennell's 'Lady Filmy Fern', published in1980.
The book was written by Hennell in the 1930s, as a series of stories which he, Bawden and other friends invented together. However, it was put aside when a publisher rejected it.
Bawden completed his pen and ink/ gouache illustrations for Lady Filmy Fern by1940 and he hid them in his garden during World War II.
