Annette Macarthur-Onslow I

Images from 'Minnie' by Annette Macarthur-Onslow, published by Collins and Sons. 1971.
I found this book in a charity shop in Cambridge this summer and was struck by the strange use of line, with pictures built out of paralel lines in both pencil and paint. It also has wonderful use of paint and wax resist and meticulous detail and observational studies.

Annette Macarthur-Onslow is an Austrailian writer and illustrator who trained at East Sydney Technical College. She worked as a freelance commercial artist and then in TV before moving to Europe. Hereshe worked for a publishing firm and studied at the National Art School, London and Kososchka School in Salzburg. In England she lived in the Round House at Pinswell and it is here that she wrote her award winning books 'Minnie' and 'Uhu'.
