These are the two dresses that I have made this weekend and for once they have evolved without major disaster, (the grey one was for a wedding) and that is a miracle.
I have been making clothes in this slapdash fashion since I was about 14 and successful or not I have always enjoyed wearing them. For a while I also had a bad habit of making clothes for job interviews . . . I didn't get the jobs and my partner still has nightmares about one particular outfit known as the 'Ziggy Stardust'.
I never use a pattern which makes everything a little less predictable. These are made from calico and muslin which has been dyed.
I have been experimenting mixing dyes, soon I am going to try natural dyes in preparation and research for an exciting project later in the year.
Hazel, you're veeeeery talented in fashion too! I like really a lot these dresses (and I recognize one of the necklaces:))... you could make a great business, perhaps via Etsy? But I know, I know... you're plenty of things to do...
ReplyDeleteAh! I wondered if you would spot it Daniela X C-:
DeleteWow, gorgeous dresses! Beautiful irregular hemline and matching shawls. Love the sound of the Ziggy Stardust (do you have a photo?), and I can absolutely relate. I made myself an outfit which I wore to my College interview (many, many years ago) - including shoes with car tyre soles and wonky, hand-stitched leather uppers. Very, um, rustic!
ReplyDeleteI wish there was a photo Saskia, so I could laugh, but no sadly that was before we had digital cameras and were so prolific in images. I just have the memory mixed with a little Bowie C-:
DeleteLike the sound of your shoes though!
I adore these dresses! The "Ziggy" must have been something to behold!
ReplyDeleteThey look beautiful - mmm!
ReplyDeleteAh I wonder if ziggy is in my archive Hazel? It's time I had a little look I think!
