Theo Jansen http://www.strandbeest.com/index.html has long been a hero of mine, ever since I first saw his amazing creatures in a Sunday supplement. He is an artist, sculptor/ inventor, who has since 1990 been involved with the creation and evolution of a whole genus of self propelled beasts. Many of these 'creatures' have been designed to roam the beeches of the Netherlands independently. Some can store wind power others have evolved sensitivity to water and can move away from the incoming tide. His creations are phenomenal and fill you with childlike wonder and awe. have a look, experience being a child again...
