Max Velthuijs II

At last, I have a book that I have dreamed of owning for years: Max Velthuijs's 'The Little Boy and the Big Fish' republished by North South books 2018.
This is a wonderfully richly colourful book about a little boy who catches a big fish. All of the adults in the story want to eat it, but the little boy just wants to keep it. The fish, of course, does not like captivity and gets ill. But he has many adventures and dreams before the boy returns him to the river

Max Velthuijs (1923-2005) was one of my children's favorite author-illustrators, his books were always full of kindness, and his vivid illustrations full of humor and love. In 2004 he received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for his "lasting contribution to children's literature".

  1. This is a very beautiful book! Love the colours and the story itself as well. Thanks for making this post about it!
