Jodie Pankhurst is an illustration graduate from ECA this year and she has been making illustrative ceramics, that support the two dimensional work she has been developing, but also stand as art in their own right.
"My degree show explores the theme of 'home' combining my deep-rooted interest with community demographics and an ever-growing fascination with material culture culminating in what I hope are a collection of sensitive and warm ceramic depictions of five international personalities I have been conversing with." Jodie Pankhurst
We're loosing our ceramics department as well, so short sighted and sad.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame these skill and resources are disappearing from schools and colleges.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about the loss of the ceramics department. Yes, these ceramics by Jodie are so beautiful. They do my heart good to see them. Yeah, I'd love to do ceramics, but without having a place that has a kiln readily available to me, it's just not feasible. Hopefully, something will be made available to those who stil are interested in it in your region. Working together to gather the resources is always a possibility---even if not through the school system.
