The end of November and the dark and the cold eb the energy. Time to chill. Here are the wonderful, hyper real paintings of Russian artist Vladimir Sturis, the bottom three are self portraits.

Georgie Ellen McAusland's illustrations for a new version of  the classic fairy tale poem 'Goblin Market'.⁠by Christina Rossetti, published by Batsford Books this month, 'Goblin Market' was first published in 1862. It is a poem about two sisters Laura and Lizzie, tempted by the Goblin men. This edition looks absolutely wonderful and has a foreword by novelist and professor of writing practice Kirsty Gunn.⁠

          

Stars

 

I have been working this week ( around an eye operation) on stars, which at times I over complicated, only to pull back. It was made for Rudy who is nearly 2 and loves the moon and stars. I am contemplating doing some mini planet ones as soon as I can, back to busy 7 day weeks for a while.

My Swan Brothers

This animation for #folktaleweek2021 was for the theme of 'Dream' and I based it on a traditional fairytale where a girl's brothers are transformed into swans by a wicked stepmother. The sisters only way to release her brothers from this bewitchment is for her to sew each of them a cape of nettles. 

Wake up!

 

I started these illustrations as a silent book a few years ago but this week I photographed it to animate and I have to say it makes me very happy with it's soundtrack. It was my second #folktaleweek2021 for Awakenings.

The Moon . . .

I was working hanging an exhibition this week, but in the early hours had thought of an animation that I wanted to make, so desperately that in a half hour lunch time I painted 54 moons and photographed them (while it was light). 

It has to be said I was also desperate to do something for this years Folk tale week, which I always seem to miss. In the evening I put this animation together, all 8 seconds of it and now I'm addicted again. It has been years since I have made animations and I have a wonderful one to make soon to accompany a four minute song about a whale by Ronnie Mackie, so I suppose I have an excuse to play for a while first!

You Are My Happiness, written by Patricia Hegarty and illustrated by Thomas Elliott was published in March this year. It is a wonderful life affirming book full of the joy of nature and the world. 

Ludwig Bemelmans I

Ludwig Bemelmans's 1898 –1962, 'Noodle', Ludwig is famous for his incredible Madeline books which I adore, but it is wonderful to find out about his other works, 'Noodle' the Dachshund, is just wonderful.
