John McKie II

Some glorious John McKie art, a wonderful bright pink start to the working week. John's work is almost aboriginal in storytelling and its use of pattern.

John Ayscough

'21 miles', by my dear friend John Ayscough, need I say more, it is 21 miles across the channel from France to England and many people die attempting this crossing, especially in winter. Britain is complicit in causing human displacement through war and a lack of action on global warming.

Helen Tabor

Paintings of interiors, landscapes and portraits inspired by people living in the artic circle by Helen Tabor,
"I was drawn to the idea of a culture living so much on the edge of existence and the potential this subject matter offered in terms of tone, texture and atmosphere with white as the dominant colour. The feel of these paintings has also influenced the mood of larger figure paintings such as ‘Walk with me’ and ‘Beneath the trees’ which use a limited palette of titanium white, raw sienna and pale burnt umber to create the quiet stillness of recent snowfall. My Book and the Edinburgh International Book Festival (a catch up)

It is all a little busy at the moment. I am trying to prepare for open studios next weekend and everything is a guddle (wonderful word but not a wonderful condition). The exciting thing is that at last I have copies of my book 'Rock and Roll', and some advance copies have made it out into the world (before its UK release on September 9th) and I am getting some beautiful reactions.
This week I appeared at The Edinburgh International Book Festival, though virtually and I hope not my last appearance as I would love to be there to take workshops with the children, It is an easy accessable print technique just using felt tips and you can see it here.

Maria José de Telleria

Maria José de Telleria's wonderful illustration, I adore the rich orange and blue, and the variety of marks and lines. The perfect illustration for Sunday.

Graham Bell

Above: The Cafe 1939, Below Brunswick Square 1940

Graham Bell (1910-1943) had a tragically short life blighted by war. His paintings are simply beautiful, painterly landscapes and portraits. Born in the Transvaal Graham moved to England aged 21 to study under Duncan Grant, one of the founders of the Euston Road School. In 1939 he joined the South African Air Force and was tragically killed while on a training flight, aged 32.

Angelika Kaufmann III

Angelika Kaufmann born 1935. It is so good to find another work by Angelika Kaufmann, this book, 'That is my window', was published in 1974 is beautiful and expresses so well the celebration of nature which appears to be draining from our culture rapidly.
