ReiRoWi (paints come off) I

I was truly inspired today by this wonderful archive of art and creativity from five generations of one family. It is a precious collection and just shows the value of treasuring family momentos, especially in this age of minimalism, with it's scorn of sentimentality.
I have all of Finlay's and Freya's art. Freya's I have made more of an effort with and have sorted them into sketch books, Finlay's is all in a portfolio, treasures indeed.

All in a weekend

What a weekend, it is going to take me a while to recover, from rashly (and badly) jumping from a bridge.
However from the top, deer, six legged cow, osprey, diving osprey, goslings and finally mad lady (me), sometimes you just need a wild weekend.

Michel Nedjar

These are a selection of the incredible works of Michel Nedjar a French outsider artist who's work I discovered in a book that I bought last weekend in Berlin.
Michel Nedjar was born just outside Paris in 1947 most of his maternal family had died in concentration camps during the war. Michel's father was a master Tailor and so Michel grew up surrounded by fabrics and machines. His first dolls were made of offcuts of material and sticks. Michel trained as a tailor also but after military service he travelled extensively. He has always made these dolls, totems of humanity, but he also draws and paints and makes films.

Lost

On my way to work this morning, this poor picture was weeping coloured tears in the gutter.

Jenny Mendes II

While we are on ceramics, I adore Jenny Mendes's tall bird vessels; their wisdom, cheeky attitudes and the patterns on their bases all go to create wonderful beasts fit for fairy tales.
Now I am wondering what each of them would sing for you, the fourth one down is definitely singing a Sam Cook song, I can hear it.

"I love to draw on anything but especially clay. Discovering the pleasure of drawing on and into a bone dry clay tile was illuminating for me. This soft subtractive way of drawing leads me into my subject in a way that drawing on paper never has." Jenny Mendes quoted at CAD

Ulrike Volker

I bought this cup on landing in Berlin, at the Kunstmarkt, it is by a ceramicist called Ulrike Volker she is not on the web . . . but she is now. It is a beautifully crafted, very light cup with a black glaze on the outside and this delicious delicate glaze work inside.

Blogging is a private solitary act mostly, but as you know, very public. For me it is extremely revealing of character. I have made great friends through it and it enriches my life and opens up a world of possibility.  The Hive Conference in Berlin was quite an eye opener to how seriously people take it and how much of a business the blog is evolving into.
I produce this blog for the pleasure I get sharing great artists and illustrators, showing a little snippet of my life and work. As well as for research and for the joy of communicating with lovely people.
The Hive had some powerful and influential bloggers from many genres of blogging and it was very interesting, showing me different perspectives on how people blog/ publish, about what and most importantly why.
The greatest pleasure it afforded me was to spend time with friends and to explore Berlin.
