I am in love with a new tiny pond that I have installed in my front garden, and this illustration by Dunja Jogan expresses how I feel whenever I get the chance to peer into it or add new plants around its sides. It is magical to see the life this pool of water brings to the space.

My life is full of birds at the moment and so are these lyrical and sublime illustrations featuring birds by Maria J de Telleria.

I have a tailless black bird who looks through the window, to see when I am up, and gives me a meaningful stare until I fetch him a hand full of raisins which he then crams into his sunshine yellow beak and flies off to feed his chicks. 

The seagull raps with increasing urgency on the skylight for food, as his chicks swell up and look like roof top penguins, grey and downy, plodding around on the precipice of fledging. 

This morning I was awoken at the other side of the house by the rasp of magpies and looked down at my cherry tree to see the chicks, wings out, fluttering demanding to be fed, and I am in love with them all. 

 Maria J de Telleria is an Argentinian illustrator who tells stories often with a moment of line, capturing expression, intent and fun in an instant, beautiful work.

In my second post about Bernard Cheese, I thought I would share some of his prints that have a visual narrative. Indeed Bernard's works have such a strong sense of story I wish they had been used to illustrate children's books, as they are full of wonderful observation and humour.

Bernard Cheese I

Bernard Cheese (20 January 1925 - 15 March 2013). It amazes me that after all these years of blogging and studying I can still find a gem, that has eluded me. Bernard Cheese is such a gem, his beautiful humorous works have the same aesthetic as those of Roger Duvoisin, Gerald Rose and to a certain extent John Burningham. These artists all allow space, fun and sparkles of observation in their works that make them sing and resonate with smiles and recognition of good things in life.
