Keiko Shibata V
Keioko Shibata's illustrations are full of joy, humor and the good things in daily life. On a sad, wet, winters day they are a tonic. Keiko's illustration works are mainly created for magazines, advertising and packaging.

Yamauchi Kazuaki I
Love the calm order in this screen print of white radish by Yamauchi Kazuaki. Unfortunately, his blog is not working. Thank you, Nance for finding the Google albums.
Mercado De Atarazanas II: Vegtables
Having lost many of our grocery shops and markets, we have lost this whole visual beauty is selecting our food. The vegetable and fruit displays at Mercado De Atarazanas, Malaga, are like works of art, towering sculptures of different colours and shapes, tantalizing on the eye.

Jordi Estivill II
A singing guitar from Jordi Estivill, it is interesting how busy your eyes are when they first encounter Jordi's works as they scurry across the busy surface trying to make sense of the cacophony of texture, objects and imagery.

Mercado De Atarazanas I: Sea food
A feast for the eyes, the Mercado De Atarazanas (indoor market in Malaga) is so visually rich, I think I could quite happily spend a lifetime recording the amazing spectacle that it presents, both in terms of produce and people. Here are some of the moments I caught in the seafood section yesterday morning.

Hamid Reza Akram
I did visit a bookshop to see the children's books and I was not disappointed at the strangeness and difference of what was available, there was very little similarity.
One lovely book that I found was ¿Qué quieres, caracol? (What do you want dear Snail?) illustrated by Iranian Illustrator Hamid Reza Akram. This book has beautiful rich and bright illustrations that you can visit again and again and see something new every time.

The Flower Stalls of Malaga
I am working on a series of photos on the flower stalls of Malaga. A lovely wee project to take time over in my last two days here.

Hilma of Klint II
I wish I could have taken photographs in the exhibition, to show you the works but it was not permitted so here are a couple of Hilma of Klint's compositions. They are stunning when you see them, as they have a great scale, presence and joy.

Hilma of Klint I
Also at the Picasso Museum in Malaga there is a temporary exhibition of the work of Hilma of Klint(1862-1944).
I had seen individual pieces of this artists work before and it was great to see her work in a large collection.
Hima is now being heralded as the mother of abstraction as her compositions predate abstract works by Kandinsky, Mondrian and Malevich.
Hilma's art generally explores those hidden forces that we cannot see and struggle to understand.
The works are full of balance, beauty and a desire to understand, and yet they stand alone as phenomenally beautiful works with soul lifting colour and interplay of forms and pattern.

Picasso
I Really enjoyed visiting the Picasso Museum in Malaga on Sunday so lovely to see his ceramics, sculptures and paintings and to think of this great artist creating these pieces that you are standing next to.
I loved the humour in his work you can imagine the twinkle in his eye as he was making some of these pieces.
The gallery is a wonderful tranquil space with a great courtyard cafe where the fattest pigeon was taking a calm bath in the water feature, it just sat there enjoying the cold water, I am sure Picasso would have drawn it was he there.

Love Letters on Prickly Pears
I am in Malaga this week with my work and yesterday spent a wild day running around getting my bearings and seeing what there was to see.
I don't see what other people see, so what I saw was all of the love letters inscribed into the leaves of prickly pears, so . . . with love from Malaga.

José Sanabria
So it is this illustration of a flying elephant by José Sanabria, which has caught my attention today, from 'Huellas en la Arena' by Maria Teresa Andruetto who won the 2012 Hans Christian Anderson Award.
José works in collage and paper mache amongst other media to create wonderful illustrations and three-dimensional work.
