Picasso

I Really enjoyed visiting the Picasso Museum in Malaga on Sunday so lovely to see his ceramics, sculptures and paintings and to think of this great artist creating these pieces that you are standing next to.
I loved the humour in his work you can imagine the twinkle in his eye as he was making some of these pieces.
The gallery is a wonderful tranquil space with a great courtyard cafe where the fattest pigeon was taking a calm bath in the water feature, it just sat there enjoying the cold water, I am sure Picasso would have drawn it was he there.

Love Letters on Prickly Pears

I am in Malaga this week with my work and yesterday spent a wild day running around getting my bearings and seeing what there was to see.
I don't see what other people see, so what I saw was all of the love letters inscribed into the leaves of prickly pears, so  . . . with love from Malaga.

José Sanabria

I have flown and landed, slept and woken but it is still not light and I have not got my barrings.
So it is this illustration of a flying elephant by José Sanabria, which has caught my attention today, from 'Huellas en la Arena' by Maria Teresa Andruetto who won the 2012 Hans Christian Anderson Award.
José works in collage and paper mache amongst other media to create wonderful illustrations and three-dimensional work.

Matti Pikkujämsä III

Finnish illustrator Matti Pikkujämsä has no website I have scrabbled around the web trying to find images of his work which I think is very special, I wish his books were published in English but then they would probably be altered beyond the text and I just love them their fun, colours and composition. These images are from the book Сокровища лесных эльфов by Реетта Ниемеля

Trendafila Trendafilova I

Trendafila Trendafilova is a young artist who's work reminds me of 1930's-50's work in its semi abstraction and pared down almost sculptural imagery. It brings to mind Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson and the style of their era.
(thank you)

Gerald Rose, The Great Oak

I am still collecting books illustrated by Gerald Rose, I absolutely love his illustrations as you know, but also I love these older children's books because of  the values and the quality of the writing.
There is a great sense of care, community, wonder and nurturing and great story telling. This book tells the story of an oak tree and features some of it's uses through the centuries, and some of the animals who take shelter and eat it's fruit, as well as the way children, play, swing, climb and built tree houses in its great branches.

Janusz Stanny II

Janusz Stanny's visual technique of containing elements of the image's content.

Janusz Stanny I

Today I am featuring the work of Polish illustrator, graphic designer Janusz Stanny
Janusz Stanny's work is often like an embrace, as the action/ content of his images  is contained and held within other objects and again they have that wonderful economy of line and content.

Joanna Neborsky

I love the simple, succinct design of Joanna Neborsky's illustrations. The elegance of being able to put down just the right amount of information to capture the idea and mood, a clever economy.
