Anna Kövecses

Anna Kövecses has produced a wonderful graphically illustrated book of the Hungarian alphabet, Anna's graphic illustrations are so wonderfully composed and the colour is so perfect, that it looks as though it is a classic children's book from the 1950's.
I love the translucent layering of colour, the collaged style you can buy it here.

Rebecca Green

Rebecca Green is an illustrator living in Colorado who dreams of being a full time animator.
This painting she produced almost as a distraction from her illustration work and I almost thought I had wrongly labeled it when I tried to find it again as it is quite different from her usual work,  but I found it again on Rebecca's blog and I think it is lovely.
"I hate the idea of shoving myself in a box and having to simplify everything. I like working on the verge of realism sometimes." Rebecca Green

Rina Ono

When is stationary art? when it has been designed by Rina Ono. I love the colours and the display of these beautiful stationary products, there is nothing better than having every day mundane objects in your life stunningly beautiful.

KwangHo Shin

KwangHo Shin is a Korean artist who works on an amazing scale, his portraits are often twice his size. These particular ones are rendered in charcoal and conte on canvas beautifully drawn with incredible eyes that pull you into their reality.
KwangHo Shin's coloured portraits are more destructive and remind me of Francis Bacon's works.

Reductive tonal drawing

The start of a new academic year, we are working on tonal drawing and one of my favourite techniques for tone, charcoal reductive drawing, messy but fun and great results.

Life Drawing

I am working very hard at the moment, but despite being tired I am loving the work that students are doing. These are some drawings from a life drawing class that I am covering for a couple of weeks, they are by a lady called Teresa Angus. All of the students drawings were great, but I just managed to take a picture of Teresa's.

Miroslava Rakovic II

I can imagine these works by Miroslava Rakovic would be translated beautifully into tapestries with their gentle grades of colour and delicate lines. Many of these works have been made by initially by painting over magazine pages with acrylic paint.
(Thank you)

Nahid Kazemi I

Nahid Kazemi is an Iranian illustrator who's work often features birds.
I am beginning to see a cultural style across the work of the Iranian illustrators that I have showcased on this blog. There is a very abstract use of the pictorial space where blocks of colour or pattern hold areas of action or narrative. There is interesting blending of  techniques within compositions like the top illustration of Nahid's where she has combined print and hand drawn elements.

Elena Shumacher I

Elena Schumacher's work has been making me smile this morning, it is often full of humour and those fleeting observations of everyday magic.
Elena lives in Smolensk, Russia  her work often involves birds and more usually people with animals and birds.

Silvana Avila II

I love this collaged illustration by Silvana Avila with its wonderful mixture of drawn pattern, collaged pattern, composition and empty spaces.
I wish I was one of those birds as I an enveloped in work and I really would love someone to open the 'envelope' and let me fly for a while.
Thank you budpnq

Kanae Entani

The skies have been amazing for the last couple of months, the cloud forms so varied and beautiful they have stopped me in my tracks and filled me with wonder. I thought Kanae Entani's textile clouds and cloud like thoughts were a great way to honour and celebrate these beautiful skies and their fleeting vaporous art.

The Queen Has Arrived.

The queen has arrived all the way from Italy on the sea of Daniela Tordi's wonderful imagination. Strangely despite being an Italian Queen she reminds me of a morris dancer with her exotic and strange costume.
Thank you Daniela.
