Ilonka Karasz I

The twelve days of Christmas illustrated by Ilonka Karasz (1896-1981). The content rich illustrations in this beautiful book certainly give the impression of the frantic activity of the last few days before Christmas.
Ilonka Karasz illustrated children's books and magazines and most impressively, over a span of almost fifty years, she illustrated 186 covers for The  New Yorker. However prolific she was as an illustrator she was initially acclaimed as a textile designer and side by side her illustration work she continued to design for applied arts producing ceramics, rugs and textiles.

Piu Sudo I

I have been running around the internet trying to find more information about Piu Sudo and more work by this wonderful illustrator and designer. For now I have to content myself with showing you her beautiful textile designs, but I hope by the end of the day to have more of her work to share with you.

Merel Boers

I adore blackwork and wire, I suppose that, in essence, means that I love line.
Merel Boers 'Miss blackbirdy's' work is monochromatic, a dance of black lines on white. These pictures are from a project called 'storysewing'.
"My wardrobe is a garden, a garden which grows fuller by the year.
Words' illustrations and yarn.
Together they tell a story.
A story that finds a place.
On a clothes hanger somewhere in this world." Merel Boers. (thanks)

Marie-France Annasse

It is always difficult to know where to start in a New Year so I decided to start with potatoes. I have wanted to share the joy of potatoes by Marie-France Annasse for some time, what better time than the New Year. Marie France is a stylist for my favourite magazine Marie Claire Ideas. This wonderful potato rocket inspired Freya and I, I hope it inspires you too.

Joel Henriques

I have been aware of Joel Henriques inspiring 'Made by Joel' blog for some time, but then I found his web page which is a treasure trove of his paintings, mobiles and designs. The compositions here are created using ink and textiles.

Sara Illenberger

Sara Illenberger is incredibly ingenious, talented and inventive. Above are pictures from an air freshener advertising campaign. I love this idea 'a pop up door', one day I would love to make one myself.

Flavio Morais

Flavio Morais's assemblages. There is something magical about art work in boxes and cobbled together from scraps and flotsam and jetsom of modern life. Flavio Morais makes these wonderful works, but is also an amazing illustrator, animator and designer.

Clementine Collinet

After visiting a friend with exotic pets I was inspired not to get a spider or snake, but crickets. The cricket choir has been in full song (and full volume) for a month now, in the kitchen, however we are now down to the last six (they don't live very long).
Clementine Collinet's work appeared before me this morning, and it is all wonderful, but her bugs in jars, they are just fab!
Clementine is an illustrator and designer in Montrouge, France who has a shop called La Sardine .

Mati McDonough

I am painting now, and so it is painters that are jumping out at me from the web, waving their brushes and going look at me! (I exaggerate but you know what I mean). Here are some examples of the work of Mati McDonough an artist from San Francisco.

Anika Easter

Above and below; Images of Fenced In
Anika Easter is concerned with the lines of wires in our world, and in the piece above has magically made the fence wires into guitar strings that can be tuned, for you to pick a tune as you pass, wonderful. Anika also designs clothing and paints.

Cecilia Afonso Esteves

I like the cool pallet and execution of these amazingly calming illustrations by Argentinian, Cecilia Afonso Esteves. In fact Cecilia's work with its simple graphic use of paper cuts and collage is wonderfully meditative as well as having great humour.
