Leo Tokmakov

Leo Tokmakov's (1928-2010) illustrations for  "Gelsomino in the land of liars" published in 1960 written by Gianni Rodari (1920-1980). This book has bold graphic illustrations, and in them, you can see the influence of modern early twentieth century masters of art throughout. The story that Gianni Rodari created was a very popular modern fairytale, however, it is a story that can be enjoyed and read on many levels and has as an adult reader reveals interesting views on corruption, society, and politics.

There is a interesting interview with Leo about his childhood here.

Anna Romanova I

Illustrator/ animator Anna Romanova's illustrations for the poems of  Levin Vaim; 'Stihi s gorchicej' published 2015.
Anna has a wonderful retro style, enhanced by the limited use of colour. There is a great use of humour, scale, texture, style as well as a beautiful warmth of character in Anna's illustrations.

Mai Miturich II

Mai Miturich's (1925-2008) illustrations for Kudasheva, R. Petushok's 1968 book 'The Cockerel' (PETUSHOK ПЕТУШОК). For me this is heavenly, I love the colour, but even more I adore the watercolour line work, again it is a pamphlet book, soft and magazine like. I feel it is really important to preserve these works whether in hard copy, electronically or in the case of this book in both forms.
