Louise Heugel

Louise Heugel's illustrations have great contrast between lively expressive backgrounds and very controlled intricately drawn imagery to the fore. The combination is a magical, busy world of abstraction and meaning great for the minds eye to explore and make sense of.

Adrien Parlange

In the book 'L' Enfant Chasseur' Adrien Parlange has created a book who's content changes when you put the profile of a child into the pictures.

A child's profile printed in cerise on acetate is provided, with registration marks that you find and match in each illustration and like a jigsaw puzzle you piece together the child's imaginings during a walk.
Adrien Parlange uses minimalist Matisse cutout style illustrations and strange registration signs (circle, arrow, square, curve segment) to direct the reader to position the transparent head of the child.
In this way, the picture becomes animated the layered color changing the perception and revealing silhouettes of the shark, squirrel or fox.

Jean Jullien

I do love the work of Jean Jullien it reminds me of Saul Steinberg and Serge Bloc in its succinct perfection of design and humour.

Christine Roussey, Inktober I

I have been aware of inktober but wasn't able to participate as I have been absorbed with other projects. Today I thought I would have a look for some inktober magic and I found Christina Roussey's magical ink creations in which she has incorporated natural findings which add to their characters and tangibility.

Françoise de Felice

The paintings of Françoise de Felice manage to be very classical in composition, content and aesthetic. Whilst also being true to their time because of the way Françoise applies the paint in layers, so they appear eroded like advertising hoardings and graffiti.
I woke up thinking of 'our time' and how it appears in art and craft and my thought was this; that so much of it is fractured broken and reassembled. In my mind this is because we are living life so fast that we are snatching at things, not having time to contemplate the whole. Also we are so saturated in current affairs history and information, that sometimes your mind is like a constantly changing TV screen, your eye is not allowed time to be quiet and contemplate.
Françoise de Felice in her paintings captures the allusiveness of time, its mirage, her paintings seeming to blend eras and sensibilities. So that they look like they have ghosts of past paintings trapped in the canvas.

Amelie Flechais

French illustrator Amilie Flechais wonderful wild fox haired old lady. I love Amilie's illustrated worlds, her people and creatures that are so alive in her books and comics. Amilie also works as an animation artist, I would love to see her produce an animation of her own work.

Jean Jullien II

It is Jean Jullien's propensity to draw his comical line drawings on environments that has led to his recent residency at the Wythe Hotel, New York. Though I believe he only started out drawing on their windows, the drawings are spreading. . .

As I said yesterday I see a strong Saul Steinberg influence which I love as Saul is one of my favourite graphic, comic creatives of the last century. Below are two examples of Sauls interior drawings.

I couldn't resist this illustration by French illustrator Frédérique Bertrand as it describes my weekend perfectly, as I run around cleaning and redistributing clothing, and pants and socks make a larger than life appearance.
