Playing with whiskers

The cat who lives with us (Bellissimo) has whiskers like porcupine quills and Freya and I have been collecting them for a while now.
This weekend Freya was under the weather and it was the last days of the holidays so  . . . time to play.

A Hungry Cat Cooking

This is my illustration from Saturday's workshop with Sara Ogilvie. We were given three lists to choose our: character, attribute and activity from, a great way to get inspired.
Now I want to do a whole series of cooking cats.
This of course is Bellissimo and his wild food kitchen

Bird Cage

Last night we made (Freya and myself) a new cat house for Bellissimo. I was planning to make him a new house more regularly, but he has enjoyed the one that I made him a month ago, so much, that it seemed a shame to move him on so soon.
Anyway I wanted to make this one into a bird cage for various reasons, but mainly because I misinterpreted something one of my students was making and then wanted to make what I had thought he was making. I often find this is when you have great ideas, when you see something, but misread it  . . .I suppose it is just looking at things differently.

I may upload different pictures later as these were taken in the dull early morning light, but they give you an idea of how much he likes it.

Sunny Day, painting day II

Raw, unstretched and still needing whiskers.
Bellissimo is here with his trophy pigeon legs, to often that is all I find left of a pigeon except a puff of feathers. Beanz has her broken eye and her sunshine colours and demeanour. I may stretch them but I don't know, for now they are stuck to the wall with tape and Freya is making moves on the Bellissimo one for her room.

Sunday's are for playing with the cat

Freya is sick today, but we have had great fun making cat boxes for Bellissimo. Quite therapeutic too, making a cat that is sooooo evil (scratchy and bitey) look funny.

New Book . . . it's all about spiders

I am playing and I shouldn't be I still have such a lot of work for work to do, but I am inspired and you need to strike while the irons hot, and so here is the happy fruit of my weekend, I hope to have a book finished in the next few weeks. It also explains my current obsession with illustration . . . sorry.

Lock up the cat . . .

It is wild and stormy here in Scotland. One of the most beautiful trees in my garden was killed by the wind yesterday (a lilac), that I loved for feeding the butterflies and sheltering the birds. The tree damage has been terrible, it is the wrong time of year for such ferocious winds. With the loss of habitat and shelter the birds are suffering also, and two blackbird fledgelings have already been bought to my attention, one past saving, the other one fine. Anyway with these and many other thoughts, I started a new series called, 'Lock up the cat and let the birds play'. I have to say, with inspiration thrown into the mix by Laura.
