An answer to Agnes Richter by Lisa Niederreiter

Hand sewn silk crepe dress by Lisa Niederreiter a lovely gesture, a letter through time from one woman to another from the Prinzhorn Collection.

Agnes Richter

There is something incredible about someone suffering from a brain coddled with thoughts, being able to exorcise some of those thoughts, worries and preoccupations into pieces of creativity, whether writing, sculpture or art. These images are of jackets hand embroidered with the musings of Agnes Richter when she was in an insane asylum in 1890's Austria. Agnes was a seamstress before living in the asylum and took to sewing her uniform into a jacket encrusted with autobiographical text. Agnes's story has been written by Gail A Hornstein.
