He was arrested by the transport police in Inverness! But then released on bail by a restaurateur from 'The Joy of Taste' to be the guest of honour. I am so proud that he made it to Inverness and was addressed so warmly.

Today is Burns day in Scotland. I have been making Haggis for weeks with my students, tiny ones, tartan ones and this giant 6ft, kilted and dashing Haggis. Today he left us to travel north with a label.

I am hopping that people on the train will take their pictures with him and possibly make him guest of honour at their burns supper . . . I hope he doesn't get lost on the way!

Sometimes it is good just to be alone with a strange thought. The strange thought this week is potatoes have eyes . . . now I have a potato, a book of potatoes and three potatoes with eye holes.
Why? because I am playing and I need to play. . . and now my potatoes have eyes and legs.
I particularly like my King Edward potato as he reminds me of Henry the Eighth.
I also learnt about the potato breed called 'smile' which has a lighter patch in the shape of a smile around the eye.

So I have in the last few days of 2011 been making some fish head pieces (at least the wind won't get in their ears) from some spare pieces of plastic and sticky mirror and quality street wrappers.

I am beginning to wonder what is in the water in Chicago that this city is making all these incredible male textile artists. Ok, I only know of two so far in Chicago, but even so their work is so phenomenal, that the fact they are both from the same city is astounding. I am talking about the artist Danny Mansmith who shares his city with one of my hero's Nick Cave. Stitching 10 hours a day by the time he left high school, Danny naturally went to art school but this was short lived as it was too constraining. Danny's work is so prolific it is difficult to summarise, the few examples I have chosen are free machine embroidery pieces, resembling sashiko in the intensity of stitch. Danny also produces lots of cut out pieces and an amazing cast of figures/dolls.
