Let the summer begin . . .

It is the first day of holidays and Freya and I have embarked on a face painting project one a day for a week? I don't know, we will see. Of course as soon as I had painted Freya's face she wanted to paint mine as well.

Corinna Wagner

These are the paintings of Corinna Wagner a German artist who has two sides to her creative output. Half of her portfolio are colourful abstract works, and the other half are these intense and haunting solitary figures.

Shin Eun-Sug

Wonderful rich contrasting colours and great composition, these are a few examples from the Korean Illustrator, Shin Eun-Sug's portfolio. Shin Eug-Su also makes good use of collaged painted papers, a technique that is very prevalent amongst Japanese and Korean illustrators.

I thought I could resist these bird pictures when I was peering at the tiny thumbnails but when the top image came larger than life on my screen I just couldn't, these pictures are by Lee Eun-Sun.

Guei-A Ma

I am having a Korean extravaganza, here are a few examples of the bright, busy works of Guei-A Ma.

Kyoungmi Ahn

I am researching Korean illustration this weekend and I have just found the work of
Kyoungmi Ahn who incorporates three dimensional clay figures into her illustration, in a similar way ( but with a different  focus) to how Lili Scratchy displays her ceramics.

Maria Corte Maidagan

I have choosen Maria Corte Maidagan's works to follow on from my 'secret' as  they have are full of hands and arms. Maria's designs cleverly embrace her subjects in this way, and have many qualities of Fernand Leger's work.

Illustration Friday 'Secret'

This week I decided to try submitting an illustration to Illustration Friday. The subject for this week was secret.
I have made a textile illustration, as that seems to be the way that I am enjoying working at the moment.
I am hoping to be able to do many more things like this during the summer when I am free from the responsibilities of  work.

Olya Leontieva III

Olya Leontieva has a magical talent, everything she touches seems to work from her drawings to collages, stick compositions and painting has quality and presence. These paintings, called Apocalyptic fashion resonated with the circles in Lesley's work.

Lesley Barnes

The latest wonderful edition of the children's magazine Anorak has some lovely illustrations by Lesley Barnes, The blue and the swirl of the skirt appealed greatly to me. Lesley has a very clean graphic style, incorporates folk patterns and her work feels both retro and contemporary.
If you have children I cannot recommend Anorak enough, Freya and I both feel we are getting a treat when the latest edition drops through the door.

Arianna Favaro

'All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.'
 ~ Samuel Becket
I can certainly relate to this quote of Samuel Becket's and I found it in a blog post accompanying these lovely etchings. They were created by Italian illustrator Arianna Favaro and exhibited at Bologna Children's fair 2010.
Sometimes life offers up rings of fire that you just have to keep jumping through.

Dinara Mirtalipova

I want to paint with clouds like Dinara Mirtalipova an illustrator and crafts person from Uzbekistan who now lives in America. What a lovely idea especially here in Scotland where we have so many of them. (thank you)
